Take Care’s

Studio Values & Manifesto

Take Care is a queer, sex positive studio that stands for love, connection, self-growth, empowerment, self-expression and celebration. We strive to, and are dedicated to, offering a space that is safe, welcoming and joyous.  We seek to support our community with an awareness of people’s varying needs within our space and an ongoing goal of meeting those needs as best as we can. With a core value of inclusivity, we encourage people using the space to actively join us in our ongoing efforts for inclusivity, which involve:

  • Valuing and contributing to the homely/welcoming disposition of the studio.

  • Approaching conversation topics and humour with sensitivity and appropriateness.

  • Obtaining enthusiastic consent before making any physical contact.

  • Obtaining enthusiastic consent before taking photos of a person/people and again before publishing those photos.

  • Speaking up if we have concerns about inclusivity or safety

  • Holding an awareness of the vulnerability that people may experience during their time in our space, continually looking for ways to offer increased comfort.

  • Embracing professionalism in our interpersonal interactions, with a particular emphasis on consent, comfort and safety.

  • Valuing equality and having an awareness that power imbalances exist between managers and practitioners as well as practitioners and client/students/participants. Responding to power imbalances in respectful ways.

  • Having an awareness of our personal privileges and not engaging in, or tolerating: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, sex negativity/shaming, whorephobia or othering fellow humans.

  • Actively reducing our assumptions around the identity of others.

  • Actively learning about inclusivity and evolving our language/actions accordingly.

  • Welcoming both constructive criticism and being corrected by others.
